It's Again Time to Hit the Books

As you dive into your studies at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University’s Corner Brook campus, there are a few things you should know about getting the most from your study time.

  • Be sure to have a clear understanding of the goal of your study session
  • Try to study alone, clear of all distractions including television and other electronics
  • Set intermediate goals and create an appropriate schedule
  • Pay attention in class – it will makes retaining the information much easier

Grenfell Campus’ Learning Centre has supports available to help you hone your study skills. Two instructional assistants are available to work with you individually or in small group settings. If you’re having trouble with mathematics, contact our numeracy instructional assistant. The literacy instructional assistant can help you with essay construction, writing, grammar and literacy skills.

You can also learn from other Grenfell students through our Supplemental Instruction Program. Here, student leaders direct group study sessions for difficult courses. You’ll get an improved understanding of course materials and developing good study skills.

The Learning Centre also offers a series of seminars designed to help students improve their study skills. Some of the topics covered include: time management, and effective note taking and test taking strategies.

Grenfell’s new disability supports officer will work closely with students with disabilities to ensure appropriate accommodations are in place.
